History

In 1960, La Plata's San Luis College registered a team with the Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires. A year later Club San Luis was founded and started playing friendly games.

In 1985 the club bought land close to the school. Thanks to donations from the college alumni, the club would go on to build several rugby fields, as well as a club house. Named La Casona, the club's installation were officially inaugurated in 1986. The main stadium, Luis Mariá Manes, was inaugurated in 1989.

Originally just a rugby club, San Luis started a field hockey section in 2007.

Rugby

In 1967, the club entered URBA's third division championship for the first time. Only two years later the club would win promotion to second division.

In 1972, San Luis finished runners-up of second division before winning the title in 1975, winning promotion to URBA's top level in the process. For the next fifteen years the club would go up and down many times between the first and second division before finally settling in first division at the beginning of the 1990s.

In 1988, Dardo González would become the first San Luis player selected to play for Argentina.

San Luis has the particularity of having won the national title without ever winning a provincial title. In 1998, the team reached the final of the Nacional de Clubes and drew with San Cirano, hence sharing the title. San Luis would reach the final again in 2005, losing to Hindú Club.

Club San Luis' main rival is fellow platense club La Plata Rugby Club.
